In organizations where the number of PCs and printers are in the 100s or 1000s it is not practical, cost-effective or accurate to visit each PC to perform a manual audit. Today's computing environments are so dynamic that a PC's software configuration can change daily, with automatic patch distribution such as Microsoft's Automatic Update solution. Assetworks will collect comprehensive information about every PC's hardware configuration (memory, processor, disc etc), the operating system, installed software products, peripherals such as modems, printers and scanners, network configuration details and key information including make, model and serial number.

In addition to PC's, Assetworks Discovery will also discover network-attached printers and most network devices such as routers, switches, hubs, radio base stations and other TCP/IP enabled devices.
